At Henderson Industrial Specialties we have fully engineered a design for and built a turbine isolation damper. This damper will allow maintenance personal to work in complete safety without shutting down the boiler and delaying full capacity start-up.

Sizes up to 20 feet x 20 feet can be accommodated. The damper has been fully tested in both directions to a 15 psi differential and was source inspected and found to be leak tight across its entire 65 linear feet of inflatable seal. Also a complete Finite Element Analysis was completed for all applicable load scenarios affecting the damper. This even includes the damper being qualified to handle seismic loads, so it could be used in earthquake zones. The design incorporates specifically placed access panels that allow any maintenance to be done with the minimum of down time. With the damper door fully retracted (damper open) there are no obstructions in the path of the flow, such as the seal/seat or any internal bracing. This feature and the fact that it is a full size opening (round or rectangular) lead to a minimal pressure drop through the damper. The damper is fully automatic, operated with custom control panels/system to fit seamlessly into your control system. These dampers can be fully customized to suit your process needs.

The images below show a turbine isolation damper which Henderson Industrial Specialties designed and built this turbine isolation damper for a Bechtel Power Project which is installed between the turbine and the cooling condenser. It weighs in at 110,000 lbs and stretches 20 feet high, 38 feet long and has a 5.5 foot face to face. The gate itself weighs 20,000 lbs and can be fully closed and sealed in under 5 minutes by the push of a button. This damper's seal-leak testing was source inspected and found to be leak-tight across it's entire 64 linear feet of inflatable seal.
